What is a private locate?
A private locate identifies buried utilities that are not covered by Alberta One Call, such as lines installed after construction (e.g., sprinkler systems, secondary electrical lines, gas lines to BBQs or garages). These must be located before digging to avoid costly damage.
Why do I need a private locate if I already contacted Alberta One Call?
Alberta One Call only locates public utility lines. Private lines—like those on private property—are your responsibility to locate. Ignoring them can lead to serious safety hazards and repair costs.
What types of utilities can you locate?
We can detect a wide range of buried utilities, including:

Do I still need a private locate if I’m only digging a few inches?
Yes. Even shallow digging can damage buried lines. It’s always safer—and often required—to confirm there are no hidden utilities.
Are you ALSP approved?
Yes, Zero Damage Locating is an approved ALSP vendor in Alberta. We're authorized to perform locates on behalf of utility owners who delegate this work through the Alternative Locate Program. After completing a One Call request, you are then able to choose the ALSP option to complete your locate request.
